Coffee Hoarder

We recently got one of those fancy coffee pod machines in our office to ensure we're all equipped and ready to go in the morning (no excuses for an off-day, haha!) However, with a growing number of employees and so many different coffee blends/flavours and tea options it took us a while to get the hang of what and how much to order.

If you're a coffee lover, you'll understand the importance of getting your morning caffeine fix- and in your preferred blend too. TeamGuy Jeremy decided to stock up on some coffee pods, but unfortunately got caught. Let's see what's next on the punishment list ...

Punk'd

I woke up one morning last week, not feeling too great so I decided to work from home and rest up. Sure enough, I was back to myself and headed to the office as per usual the next morning. The graphics department is located near the back of the office, so as I made my way through the office I looked around and greeted the early birds good morning. I was getting strange looks, an occasional chuckle but I didn't think too much of it, I've come to learn that working at Teambuy strange things happen and sometimes (most of the time) you're probably off not asking.

When I got to my desk, to my surprise (or not really) this is what I was greeted with:

My chair, mug, screen, and laptop stand covered in plastic wrap. Miscellaneous items such as my headphone, a toy elephant and even sample size deodorant were also wrapped up.

My TeamBuy Experience:

TeamBuy intern Thomas shares his experience and what he's been up to this Summer!

My first Friday: Pie Eating Contest

I have been interning at TeamBuy for just 2 weeks and it has been a blast since the day 1. My most memorable experience so far was last Friday’s office party hosted by our amazing ECF (Extreme Culture Force). We kicked it off with a office pot luck in the afternoon, we all feasted on tasty treats and discovered a lot of closet chefs.

The first event held was a pie eating contest, whereby my nominated members of our team competed against each other to furiously eat the most amount of pie in five minutes, with no hands! I especially enjoyed seeing the look on Ben’s pie-covered face when he was declared as the winner. 1.  Call or speak with your boss in person. Schedule a time to speak with him/her in advance, so you can talk about your situation without interruptions.

2. Plan your two weeks notice within the larger scheme of the company. You don’t want to give your two weeks notice (especially if the company is on the smaller side) while you’re working on a large project or just when the company is about to embark on a new one. Timing is everything and makes a difference between your boss being an amazing reference or a line on your resume as “just someone who managed me”.

Washroon Key

My new office is one of many in a downtown building and we share washrooms with other offices on the same floor. Each office is given one key to access both the women and men’s room. During the first week of settling in, we’ve already misplaced the washroom key. My manager remembers me being the last person who went to the bathroom, so I was accused of losing it. I was sure I brought it back to the original place (placing it on the table by the main entrance) but I was sure I saw Omar (our CFO) go after me. The rest of the day was awkward, I heard grunts from everyone who needed to go to the bathroom because we they would need to ask the office next door to borrow theirs (it was a acupuncture clinic with a strange odor and unfriendly staff.) Luckily, by the next day, our key was located; turns out Omar left it on top of the paper towel dispenser in the men’s room. We all laughed it off, and to avoid losing the key again, Matt decided to bring in a hammer and attaches the key. It’s funny and awkward to carry around a hammer in the hallway but definitely a good reminder.

In a poll of hiring managers, Accountemps (www.accountemps.com), a worldwide accounting-and-finance staffing firm based in Menlo Park, Calif., asked them, "What is the wackiest or most unusual pitch you've heard from a job seeker about why he or she should get the job?"

Here are the top 10:

1. "...told me to hire him because he was allergic to unemployment."

2. "... said that we should hire him because he would make a great addition to our softball team."
